This recent project for BOC was to create an interesting and unique styling for one of their popular welding helmets. BOC supplies compressed and bulk gases, chemicals and equipment around the globe. Their Weld Guard range is affordable, tough, safe and comfortable. This high impact auto-darkening welding and grinding model is ideal for MMA, MIG/MAG, and TIG welding.
We took inspiration from the gritty workshop with some automotive styling influences. Numerous realistic concepts visuals were fast tracked using the 3D model.
The 3D side of the project involved optimising supplied CAD data for the shell and lens while remaining components such as the control knobs, dials and headband were modelled in Modo. As we had to produce artwork for the printing the shell was retopologised and baked out an optimised flat artwork for the printer. Rendering was also completed in Modo using the native engine.
